This music came from Celia Lindsay. She became my alter ego for around eighteen months while the story of her life unravelled. Each work relates to a specific event in her life which I recorded as a novel, a biography, a study and a play. However, my words fail to reveal more about her than her music but meanwhile she wants her voice to be heard.

Alter-egos are not uncommon for composers. Schumann was both Florestan and Eusebius, Philip Heseltine was Peter Warlock, Peter Schickele was P.D.Q Bach, Jacob Gershowitz became George Gershwin and David Bowie became Ziggy Stardust. Whether a penname or an alter-ego, a different identity can be empowering.

The recordings I made were the result of often heated discussions between us. As a pianist I wanted to follow the written note but there were occasions when she encouraged me to take creative liberties. The intention of her music is not limited by the notation.

Celia prefers the collection of compositions to be performed as a complete unit in the order given although I suspect she would be pleased with any selection.
