The Googly-eyed glass squid (Teuthowenia pellucida) is just one of the many bizarre creatures living in the depths of our oceans. When startled, it has the astonishing ability to inflate its transparent body into a sphere; whereupon it fills itself with ink and vanishes into the darkness of the abyss.
Scordatura Squid was written in tribute to the composer John Casken on his retirement as Professor of Music from the University of Manchester in 2008. It was first performed in a concert in his honour at the Cosmo Rodewald Hall, University of Manchester on 25 January, 2008 by David Routledge.
