The three works for violin and piano were written over a period of almost two years during 1943 and 1944. Away from the bustle of London, where Busch had lived before ill-health began to plague him, he was able tocomposeproductively at his home in Woolacombe, Devon. Works from this time included the Suite for Cello and Piano; a number of songs written for Henry Cummings, Peter Pears and his long-time collaborator Sinclair Logan; hisViolinConcerto was left unfinished by his untimely death in January 1945.
Busch left the three pieces as separate works and as such may be performed separately, or, if performed as a suite, may be presented inanyorder.
