Hugh Masekela
Hugh Ramapolo Masekela was a South African trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, singer and composer. Often called "the father of South African jazz", he was known for his jazz compositions and anti-apartheid songs like 'Soweta Blues' and 'Bring Him Back Home'. He received numerous honours and awards from both African and international press throughout his life, including honorary Doctorates in Music from both the University of York and Rhodes University.
