French lyric mezzo Karine Deshayes studied at the Sorbone and the Conservatoire de Paris, where her teachers included Emmanuelle Haïm, with whom she regularly performs and records. Deshayes specialises in French nineteenth-century music and baroque repertoire; her discography includes Malvina in Méhul’s Uthal, Astasie on the world premiere recording of Salieri’s Tarare, and Henry Desmarest’s Vénus & Adonis (all with Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater[.i] with soprano Sonya Yoncheva, Gounod’s Saint François d’Assise with Laurence Equilbey and Accentus, and a Rossini recital with Les Forces Majeures and Raphaël Merlin on Aparté.
